2. THE BOARD: ARAF’S DECISION MAKING BODY
Araf’s opinions and decisions are issued by a board of experts chosen for their railway, economic and legal competences or their expertise in matters of competition.
COMPOSITION OF THE BOARD
Chaired by Pierre Cardo since July 2010, the board is made up of six additional members appointed for six years; the terms of office are renewable in thirds every two years. The French railway reform legislation of 4th August 2014 increased the number of permanent members of the board from one to three: a chaiman and two vice-presidents appointed by the Parliament. Under
the current legislation, the government appoints the other four board members. (read more page 17 and 18).
